How much does an e-bike weigh?

This is a frequently asked question. This page will help you calculate the real weight of an electric bike built on the principle of conversion from a traditional bike using the CYC Motor mid drive. Because not all bikes are the same, the weight is not clear-cut. However, knowing the weight of the base, i.e. the converted bike (it can be MTB, gravel, trekking or hardtail, or a city bike) and the weight of the selected electric drive and battery, we are able to precisely determine the weight of the resulting electric bike.

During the conversion, we get rid of duplicate parts from the bike, i.e. the bottom bracket with the axle, the sprocket and cranks, and sometimes also the front derailleur with its components, so in reality the bike weighs less than the entire set. For example, the complete CYC Motor X1 Stealth Gen.3 drive weighs 5.1 kg, and CYC Photon 4.4 kg. After conversion, the bike weighs about 4.2 kg and 3.5 kg more, respectively. Considering that the base, i.e. the bike weighs from 10 kg (good gravel) to even 17 kg (full MTB), the weight after conversion is from 13.5 kg to 21 kg. The weight of the battery must also be added. If we do not carry the battery in a backpack, but have it mounted on the bike (in the frame or on the rack), then we must additionally add another 2.5 kg (smaller batteries) to even 5 kg. It follows that the weight of an electric bike can be as low as 16 kg. But it can also be 26 kg. This spread of as much as 10 kg shows that the answer to the question of how much an electric bike weighs is not simple. Each case should be treated individually. On average, a ready-made company electric bike weighs about 23 kg or more.
